The anticipation for a missionary journey to Strasbourg, France, reached its peak on the evening of February 28 as a group gathered for dinner. Over heartfelt conversations and words of encouragement, spirits were fortified for the journey ahead. Now, that journey has become a reality.

This mission, made possible through collaboration between the General Consulta and the Archdiocese of Strasbourg, stems from an invitation extended by Bishop Gilles Reithinger, former Superior General of the MEP (Société des Missions Etrangères de Paris) and now Auxiliary Bishop in Strasbourg.

On the morning of February 29, the community of the General Curia bid farewell with warm embraces and fervent prayers, sending off the missionaries, Fathers Tony Kochumalavil, CRM and Michael George Mercado, CRM with blessings from Vicar General Fr. Giampaolo. With gratitude and determination, the group set forth, accompanied by Fr. Joby, Fr. General, and Fr. Frank Guichard, among others.

The journey from Casa Generalizia in Rome to Strasbourg was an 11-hour drive passing through Italy and Switzerland, offering picturesque landscapes along the way.

Upon arrival, immersion into the local community commenced immediately, beginning with a Mass at the parish at 6:30 PM. Canon Fr. Guichard facilitated their introduction to both the curia and parishioners, even hosting them for a dinner.

Integration into the local culture and language was prioritized, with two new confreres enrolled in a French language school to facilitate effective communication with the community.

This mission holds unique significance within the history of the Order, focusing on sharing the gift of faith and igniting spiritual fervor among the French faithful. Despite challenges, the missionaries remain steadfast in their commitment to serving the Lord and His people.

As they embark on this new chapter, they carry with them the blessings of faith, the support of their community, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. With unwavering dedication, they look forward to spreading the message of God’s love and compassion to all they encounter in Strasbourg.
