On the way to the LXIII General Chapter 2018

“Behold, I make all things new” (Rv21,5)

Dear Brothers,

As it is already announced, our General Chapter will be celebrated at Sacrofano  in the “Fraterna Domus” starting from July 3rd , 2018. The end is expected on 13th July 2018, unless the same chapter decides otherwise. The participants at the Chapter should arrive in Rome by 2nd July evening, assuring their presence for all the time of the proceedings of the Chapter.

The appointment at Sacrofano is on July, 3rd  at 11:00 to give an official beginning to the proceedings with a Eucharistic concelebration and the invocation of the Holy Spirit. The celebration will be presided over by Cardinal Edoardo Menichelli.

In preparation to this event, various delegation chapters have been celebrated:

Italian delegation: 6th -9th February 2018
African delegation: 4th -7th March 2018
USA-Philippine’s delegation: 11th -13th  April 2018
Indian delegation: 20th -22th April 2018

The delegation chapters served to focus on the state of the health of the Order where it is present, to debate the problems of the zone’s realities with a significant participation of the basis.

Theme of the Chapter

The LXIII General Chapter will be an ordinary Chapter, with the task of evaluating the state of the Order, electing the new General Government and giving orientations for the future.

The proceedings of the Chapter are guided by a theme which has to direct our reports and the thinking of all the confriars in response to our own times. In accord with the General Consulta I suggest the following theme:

“Behold, I make all things new”

The General Chapter is an event particularly significant for our unity and mission, as well as for the supreme collegial authority of the Order (Cf. Cst.). Its outcome relies, first of all on the work of the Holy Spirit and on obedience to his suggestions. Just as Mary and the disciples gathered in the cenacle, let us invoke the gift of the Risen Lord upon our Religious Family and particularly on those who will take part in this General Chapter.

This indispensable prayer has to continue in the spirit of personal and communitarian participation in the reflection and discernment required by our time.

I ask all the Superiors to send the moral and financial triennial reports of their respective communities by 10th June. Given the fact that the same reports were also prepared for the delegation chapters, as far as the financial report is concerned, it is enough to add the supplement for the remaining months from the delegation chapter’s period to May 2018. Please attach also the photocopies of eventual bank deposits. If one is also in charge of parishes, I request that be attached the latest annual financial reports sent to the Diocese.

What has been requested helps the Chapter Fathers and the one who is called to guide the Community to know the real situation of the same Community or of the parish. This will avoid surprises as unfortunately happened in some cases in the past.

The times we are living require a particular attention to reflection and discernment, to listen to the voice of God and to the demands of the world in order to respond with faithfulness and creativity. May this time of preparation to the Chapter find us awaken, fraternal and generous for discerning the ways of God and for living and testifying his love which transforms our heart and the world.

Brotherly,

Roma, May 16th, 2018.
